Vaughn Oliver Project.
Album Cover.
The Age of Plastic.
A project to explore and create the visual identity and brand of a chosen artist and
album. A design vehicle to transport the music to it’s audience.
My thinking.
The lyrics throughout The Age Of Plastic reflect the idea that technology is unreliable, that it fails, breaks down, and ultimately disrupts our lives. Understanding this theme heavily influenced my design approach, shaping the visuals to reflect the tension,
instability, and unease conveyed within the music.
My solution.
This design encapsulates the faults and instability often associated with technology, particularly themes of system failure and glitching. By using an image of discarded, outdated technology and applying glitch effects alongside scan lines, the cover is
designed to appear as though a printing error has occurred, reinforcing the concept of technological failure. The typography also features its own distortion effects,
applied more intensely and specifically to the text. This allows the title to stand out while maintaining consistency with the overall aesthetic of disruption.
