The Final Major Project.

My interest area.

Why do sports people always wait so long for physiotherapy?

My insight.

After being discharged from hospital and referred to physiotherapy, the average

waiting time is often around four weeks. For someone involved in sport, those four weeks could mean missing several matches, an important tournament, or even losing the opportunity for a trial. Currently, the NHS does not have a specialised pathway in place for athletes who need targeted rehabilitation for a faster return to performance. In many cases, patients are treated by general physiotherapists rather than specialists with experience in sports recovery, professionals who truly understand the physical and mental impact an injury can have on an athlete.

My solution.

Design an extension of the NHS musculoskeletal department specifically for sports people, where they can get specialised help that they need, returning to their sport faster than normal, and with better treatment. Pivot Point will reduce the wait times across the whole department and also make it more accessible for people in sport to get the targeted help that they need, from a physio that specialises in sports recovery.
