In this second year project we were asked to create a drink, this drink is ti have its main ingredient being stinging nettles. We were given a list of names to choose from but first came the research.

Looking into the history of nettles, I found that in WW2 the British armed forces used crushed nettles to make green dye for camouflage. This inspired me to look deeper into key events of WW2, one specifically provoked my interest, being The Great Escape. Cunning prisoners of war escaped the prison through a tunnel system they had been digging, I used this as inspiration for my story and helped me pick a name, as Sgt. Warden was one of the escapees.

Using the side of a plane from WW2, the Royal Air Force used a very distinct way of identifying aircraft, 2 letters, the RAF roundel and another letter. I used this approach for the label, this being for 2 drinks, one being the top side of a plane, and one being the blue underside of a plane, keeping each one distinct and recognisable, both suiting the plane theme. Rum was a clear choice as it’s seen as the drink for the Air Force.
